I am afraid you just consider what happens if you define your model to fly with!
Try to meet a 747-8x on any airport at which you are - and then try to view that 747 out of your C-181 or whatever!
If you can see that then tell me how I can do that as ATC with the ORCAM. Again: Not I define what airplane I want to see - I jest tell that ORCAM which target I want to see -- that is different than when defining which model (without +*-set) you just want to see from outside that model!

If you can do that pls. come to one of our ATC-sessions with a 747-I / R and lets see what happens!

incorrect, sir...

i generally fly the UFO... when i fly MP, i can easily see all craft in MP that i have installed on my system... that's the entire FGAddon (600+ models), plus another few dozen from other hangers, and some craft of my own... if someone shows up with a craft that is not identified the same as one i already have, then i see the blue/yellow glider... every craft that has a matching ID is displayed without problems... FG handles properly handles... ORCAM is basically just an invisible craft... one could use the UFO and have the same effect other than there being a craft visible...

in any case, my main point was to correct your invalid statement which i did ;)

"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

I suspect, there is just something off with the way the ORCAM-instance is started and searching for its MP aircraft models.

ORCAM shouldn't be searching anything... FG does all that... ORCAM is just a camera/craft with a fixed position that can turn to and track other craft...

Thanks for pointing that out! Of course, that was what i wanted to say. I suspect something is off with the "fgfs --......" command line that starts the ORCAM.

The 747-8 mystery END
Just to inform You: I will no longer discuss this 747-i/I/r/R problem! I am sure it is a design Problem in the 747!

As EDDF_ATC I service about 100 customers a week, of which about:
10% will not be visible as model at all (they most probably are out of other libraries than FGFS = http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/flightgear/ftp/Aircraft/)
20% are only displayed as blue/yellow
the rest is fine.
You all can check that in the movies http://www.emmerich-j.de/EDDF/Films/films.html

Of course I will help if somebody has questions or asks for help
* but in general my setup works fine
* if someone loves his unique model that gives problems - he/she might use it -- but may not have the additional pleasure to see his most wonderful model in the movies as wonderful as it is.
sorry!!

There is no 747-8R (or -8r) in the official FG repositories. So if someone is flying into EDDF with a 747-8R, it's no wonder it's not showing up in the videos because that is a unique model to that particular MP user.

As for a design problem in the 747-8 model, I doubt that very much. It has worked over MP since at least 2014, so unless there's some change in the MP protocol that now prevents it from transmitting, it should still work. Nothing has changed in the 747-8 model side MP set up in several years.
Boeing 747-8 (rename folder to 747-8i)

Boeing 767-300/ER (rename folder to 767-300)

Sorry - but your comment is really strange. Let me try to help you reading:
Pls see http://mirrors.ibiblio.org/flightgear/ftp/Aircraft/
in that is a : 747-8i.zip 2018-Oct-22 13:01:01 22.1M application/zip
and in that is a 747-8i.set and a 747-8f.set --> so it is in the official FGFS library
(and for NOT WINDOWS users lower or upper case do not matter!)
And (especially when using the launcher) they both are working well since years!

BUT: Maybe you overlooked that we talk about what happens when we as ATC with ORCAM or some other participant of an event wants to view that 747 of another guy from his plane during a multiplayer event!

Pls try to not just define now that the ORCAM is the bad one
- we need more help! The same happens when someone tries to view a 747x during an multiplayer event!

neither one of those is a '747-8R'. tho... perhaps someone is confused??

I'm on Debian 10 Buster GNU/Linux
No error reporting.
Code: Select all
$ java --version
openjdk 11.0.9 2020-10-20
OpenJDK Runtime Environment (build 11.0.9+11-post-Debian-1deb10u1)
OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 11.0.9+11-post-Debian-1deb10u1, mixed mode, sharing)
$ java -jar OpenRadar.jar

2020-11-08 15:41:55,273 [main] [[ INFO] OpenRadar [main]] - javax.swing.plaf.metal.MetalLookAndFeel: The Java(tm) Look and Feel

I have also tried a clean new install.
OpenRadar show the setting window and i can set all thinks as i want.
If i hit 'Start', OpenRadar loads data and finally it says 'Ready.' and nothing happens.
The setting windows freeze and doesn't respond anymore.
But it is running, because i see it on MPmap and have also looked on the network and can see the packages in and out.
It looks like OpenRadar doesn't change to the main window.

Is it maybe just opening on an x-server or virtual desktop not visible to you?
Or opening off-screen (as in window moved off the screen)?

No. If there is a window, it will show it in the window list, but there is nothing.
Also on the other Desktops, all empty.
