Reminds me of this funny ATC transcript (probably fake, but funny nevertheless!)

Tower: "AF1733, You're on an eight mile final for 25R. You have a UH-1 three miles ahead of you on final; reduce speed to 130 knots."
AF1733: "Rog-O, Frankfurt. We're bringin' this big bird back to one-hundred and thirty knots fur ya."
Tower (a few minutes later): "AF33, helicopter traffic at 90 knots now one-and-a-half miles ahead of you; reduce speed further to 110 knots."
AF1733: "AF thirty-three reinin' this here bird back further to 110 knots"
Tower: "AF33, you are three miles to touchdown, helicopter traffic now one mile ahead of you; reduce speed to 90 knots"
AF1733 ( sounding a little miffed): "Sir, do you know what the stall speed of this here C-130 is?!"
Tower (without the slightest hesitation): "No, but if you ask your co-pilot, he can probably tell you."

NEW SCENERY AVAILABLE

It includes some of the newest features in FG including:
- 850 format taxiways for ELLX! Now you can acually follow the taxiway centerline at night. Thanks to the excellent and ungoing work of Pete and Chris.
- More Hangars with doors opening when clicked upon. These doors will move even over the mp network (only if you use FG GIT later than beginning of Oct. 2011, a big thanks to Anders). Try this and keep your plane dry:
With a B1900D (or smaller aircraft), start fgfs with:
Code: Select all
--altitude=1222 --lon=6.207699 --lat=49.629843 --heading=150
or
Code: Select all
--altitude=1222 --lon=6.208312 --lat=49.630045 --heading=150

If you want a bigger aircraft (777-200ER or smaller) use:
Code: Select all
--altitude=1178 --lon=6.201277 --lat=49.617283 --heading=330
or
Code: Select all
--altitude=1178 --lon=6.200236 --lat=49.616888 --heading=330

- and D-79's holdingpoint lights.

For the doors to operate over MP you also need to enable that feature with the option --prop:/scenery/share-events=1.

As of today we changed the "EDDF-ELLX-ETAR.zip" to the new "EDDF-ELLX.zip", see
http://www.emmerich-j.de/EDDF/EDDF-ELLX.zip
With that we now added the ILS signals to the new runways, and will start operating on all 4 runways in EDDF. Sorry enough we still have to juggle a little with the runway-names, because of the many visitors who will arrive without having the new EDDF-ELLX.zip installed. But with a little good will on all sides we should be able to operate close to the real world. The runway usage will be:
Code: Select all
Reality     EDDF now       ISL-frequency     usage
25L/07R     25L/07R       110.70 / 110.95    primarily Landings, especially for Biggies (747, A380, etc)
25C/07C     25R/07L       109.50 / 110.55   Starts (ATC and whoever wants to, may call it 25C/07C)
25R/07L     25N/07N       111.35 / 111.75   Landings only (not for 747, A380 etc.)
18            18                none                   Starts only

For a better understanding see the actual traces from todays real life operation: (thanks to http://casper.umwelthaus.org/dfs/ )
Image
Image
See especially that funny dip southwards when taking of towards the West: That is right now the hottest discussion in the EDDF-Reality: It is officially to increase the safty for those GoingArround when Landing on 25R - and actually even more reduces noise over highly populated areas - of curse people in the south having to live now with more noise, do not like that at all - it is a very hot issue in newspapers, courts, demonstrations, etc.

In a next step we will prepare some easy to follow STARS (ILS landing procedures) and SID (ILS departure procedures) similar to those traces - to be offered during our ACT-sessions.

Let's hear if you would like that.

The above download incorporates the following changes to ELLX scenery:
- Groundnet file extended with an actual groundnet (before just parkpositions). Many thanks to Hansolo who put in the hard work!
- Added SID/STAR procedures (can be selected in route manager)
- Small fixes to ELLX terrain (runway lighting, PAPI)
- added some more buildings

Have fun flying!

I have placed the new EDDF-Ground-Layout onto the homepage. To my knowledge all Browsers do allow to print it direct from the menu-bar "file --> print". See:
http://www.emmerich-j.de/GND-tot.png

You can also call it from Title-Bar of any of the HomePages
http://www.emmerich-j.de/EDDF

If You did NOT download the new scenery this year - you should do so, there are some updates (ILS-Frequencies, Yellow Sidelines for taxiways, etc.). See the description inside the package
http://www.emmerich-j.de/EDDF/EDDF-ELLX.zip

Hope you have even more fun at the EDDF-Triangle

Is that scenery compatible with FlightGear 2.4.0, or would one need GIT or wait for 2.6.0?

To my knowledge it is compatible with all FlightGear levels and todays GIT (I myself use 2.4 and GIT).

But see the 3 steps in http://www.emmerich-j.de/EDDF/EDDF-ELLX.html for what was changed. In general that are
- $FG_scenery/ e000n40 and e000n50 (automatically when posting the EDDF-ELLX scenery as first scenery
- $FG_scenery/airports/ E/D/D/EDDF... and E/L/L/ELLX... (also changed when using the EDDF-ELLX as first scenery
- $FG_ROOT/airports/apt.dat.gz with step2 (copying the new nav.dat)
- $FG_ROOT/Textures.high/Runway with step 3 (copying the new /Runway (pavement))

For all those changes/Fixes we do not know when they will be generally distributed.
But the changes cannot do any harm: In case those areas get affected, the new things will just override (except the scenery EDDF-ELLX - you would have to take it out of your Scenery-pointer - as described in above html.!)
Hope you enjoy it!

It is all in the "version 7" format, so also usable for 2.4 or below (not sure how far below, tested it with 2.0 at one point).

I notice some problems with the scenery. Some objects are hovering in the air and about 12nm NE of ELLX there is a pretty ugly break in the terrain. Behind this break, the textures are messed up. Also Atlas seems to be unable to render maptiles from this area.

Hi sgoffrj,

Thanks for the feedback!
A. hovering objects: you are right, not very nice, missed those and will fix it.
B. Terrain breaks: the EDDF-ELLX download only contains the airports itself and a few Terrain tiles around it. What you are seeing is the border from my custom scenery to the standard scenery (or whatever scenery you installed in that area). These breaks cannot be helped unless everybody generating terrain uses the same (raw) elevation data and the same so-called 'Shared' data which is generated when building Terrain tiles.
C. The texture issue has nothing to do with Terrain, but with your material.xml file and the textures it points to. And again this is not in the Terrain I generated, but the whatever terrain you use there.
D. I am sadly not very familiar with Atlas, but it looks like it handles the tiles I provided, but not those outside.

Hope this helps!
