Yes, Grand Canyon. :-)

Thanks for posting the event. I propose to extend the description with a suggestion to download the new scenery by David. It is worth it. I don't remember the tile number, will try to check tomorrow if still needed.

Update added to the information post about the new scenery. I've downloaded it myself eariler but unsure if there was another step in windows (to do with buildings - not that there are many in the area anyway I suspect) after placing unpacking and putting the path in FG custom scenery

Gran Canyon
Had a prior try

landed in the crater left by the meteor with a C180 180HP 36" wheels

ground very very very sticky.
Unable to move after have reduced the thrust.

Tried to reduce friction on Gear Gear[1] Gear[2]
still was not moving

Had to add a front wind of about 65 kts to V take off ...

yes, 0k, funny!
but
anyone, a better solution ?

Was the 'sticky' ground with the default scenery or with the one from David?
Re music, I think Chris used some creative mixer settings on his PC.

@whoosh, music streaming can be done with 2 copies of mumble running and Virtual Cable and your audio player or source, instructions I followed here: https://youtu.be/sZvwbX5YNWs
I took care to only stream copyright free too and there are a few sites out there or channels on spotify that are licenced that way.

@Mariusz

The sticky was with the David Scenario w120n30.

What would require a double check is: did loaded in priority or did FG loaded the TS of my ddefault BU one.
That I could check placing a "Flag object" existing only on the David's scenario.

However the /sim/fg-scenery[x] = 'path-to/w120n30' shows that the scenario is taken in account.

I would rater sense some wrong friction factor bound to the terrain class.

Did some one else have done another test?

I can do myself more tests but only later today, perhaps already to close of our session...

@Volador

music while flying,
this is certainly cool!
I do it many times.

My very preferred one, particularly for the final APP, is the "Child of Vision - Supertramp".
The instrumental bit starting at 3.40 sounds to me like reaching the end of a travel to some amazing distant place ...

Now, about the legal bit, (or at least the interesting bit)
it is, indeed, well advised to pay some attention about what can and can not be done (DRM).

But laws do not set a fascistic "No!"
Some room is allowed to play somehow freely music, even is per chance you are in public.
A great difference is made about intentionality, organisation and spontaneousness.

The legal base is set by the Berne Convention of 1919, and then every countries have some margin of application.
for short:
- it can not be required to a legit "buyer" of the right to listen to a "musical creation", to 100% isolate themselves assuming all the burden to avoid the music to be heard outside.
(you are in your car listening to ...)
- spontaneousness reaction of transient people can not be censured.

Exempli gratia
If one is listening at they place, some music they are regularly entitled to have/listen to,
and, if per chance this music is heard outside - or over the phone - and consequently some people start to dance on that music,
well, this is not regarded as forbidden or unlawful.

So, again, it is not all B&W and the shades in between are indeed confusing.

But I am not a lawyer.
I just the weird guy who did had the patience to fully read the Berne Convention,
have gone in extenso through the UK/FR/... legal texts,
read a few tribunal cases,
paid good money to a lawyer to bring more explanation (to increase professional awareness)
and I still am swim in fog!

Curiously,
I have often seen in my reading the best was to have prior consultation with a judge or a legal advisor at the court (did not know it was possible)...

I am certainly not the one who is going to shush the music.
Keep it spontaneous.

:-)

@Mariusz

quick add on the friction problem in the crater.

Friction in FG/jsbsim is a compo "land class stickiness" and "tires stickiness"

I should check but I recollection the 1st was * by the 2nd

If it is the case, when I set a the property tree a stickiness factor of ZERO to the each of the 3 tires, the product should be ZERO whatsoever is the terrain (class land) stickiness.

I my reasoning is correct, it could be interesting to look up rather in the code of the C172.

Final note. The C172 does react quite correctly on most other land/ground friction...

Yes, there was another step to complete the secenery for Windows Users. Open a Command shell (with admin rights) and go to your scenery directory where you can also find gen-symlinks.sh. You can't use the script, but you can create the directory junctions manually with "mklink /J Link Target" to your Terrasync Home path:

For Example:
mklink /J Buildings I:\Games\FlightGear_Adds\Own_FlightGear\TerraSync\Buildings

Repeat this with Details, Models, Objects, Pylons and Roads. Works fine for me.

0K

found in my archives

the flight actually go from the airfield where we landed (KGCN) to Page Munical (KPGA)

It is quite challenging to fly like Mariusz was doing it down the canyon. This will not accommodate very well with speeds greater then about 100 kts. But I took the challenge and had fun.

I have recreated a point to point route in skyvector in order to have a evaluation of the time needed.
We are here talking about a bit less than 1 hour (+ airport time)

There is an intermediary airfield to land/takeoff/touch and go/low pass: Marble Canyon (L41) about 3/4 of the route

... another one for our bag of possibilities.

How about we all fly piper cubs for this trip? Grab 10 mins before next week to get a feel for the nimble tail dragger. I remember the event we did in Corsica over a year ago where we did beach bush landings all in piper cubs, a memorable event as all the planes looked quite cool flying together with the different colour choices. Any objections? (Plus side is that a slightly slower plane will extend our event a little if it looked short on duration)
