Very nice pictures, thank you Hyphow.
Hi Pilots,
Sorry I did not make it last Wednesday.
The Innsbrueck Bolzano parcour was looking very fun!
It would have been fun to fly it with you.
However, I am giving support to someone, and that is currently taking away my free time and steeling my focus.
I still remember
I have to finish the "manual nav log" for the Muenchen flight, for our "vault of possible future flights".
The doc itself is (hand) written
- still have to scan it
- and post edit it.
but while I was writing it, another flight, done long ago, come across my mind. A special one.
It is a flight that bring us to meet with some spacial disorientation.
As of course you know, spacial disorientation is definitely a nightmare for any pilot, including virtual ones.
This use to happen more when you come close the ground, like for example when you approach for landing:
- runway width and slope are easily mis perceived.
Even more when the landing happen elsewhere than a "flatten" runway, like in a bush landing. (in the wild)
Human mind is geared in a way where to define size and distance, it does need to compare with elements "on the side".
What happen when side elements are missing or not usable ?
We have a Ponzo illusion:
The 2 men are of identical size!
Both "moons" are the very same size.
But the bottom one is "perceived" "contained" differently by our brain.
The same weirdness happen to our runway or landing strip when no outside elements define it properly.
This is actually the "why" of the Runways Approach Lights
But what is there are none of these lights?
Well gentlemen, where are virtual pilots but not bad ones!
I however invite you to another challenge this time away from Europa.
But I would like you to allow me to present the challenge to you in the next post.
It is 1830z and I have to rush to the hospital to give the support.
Promised, I write it down tonight when I come back.
Woosh
