Yep, you're right - I completely forgot the C182 does not have floats. Benih - couldn't you quickly make some ?
But seriously, what aircraft do you suggest then ?

I tried the route (before modification) and it is perfectly doable with C172 (in amphibious config) - you just need a lot of patience :) Yes, going will be slow at times.

For me, once I let the speed go down to below 90 kt without flaps, I have to descend a few hundred feet first before I can climb again. No idea why. I will take the Cessna 208B with floats and full flaps or half power, then I will be as slow as you, but have a few problems less - I never liked the Cessna 172p.

I have to descend a few hundred feet first before I can climb again

Two things spring to mind: Bad leaning and carb icing.
Always lean the engine to rich of peak EGT (RoP), and if suspecting carb ice, activate the carb heat lever.

Sadly, thats a little more effort. But I just added a ticket to the queue: https://github.com/HHS81/c182s/issues/452

I'd venture a guess, that you start flying at the back of L/D curve. Since engine is already maxed out and you need to increase kinetic energy, the only remaining option is to trade some of the potential energy. What is working for me is staying near best climb speed and being gentle on the controls.

does the c182s even exist IRL in float and/or amphibious configuration?
a little quick googling shows there are mods to add floats or amphibious to the c182s...
i didn't look very deep but the next question that came to mind was, "does the c182s also needed a larger engine like the c172p needed for its floats/amphibious setup?"
"You get more air close to the ground," said Angalo. "I read that in a book. You get lots of air low down, and not much when you go up."
"Why not?" said Gurder.
"Dunno. It's frightened of heights, I guess."

I might not be able to make tonight's event but fingers crossed.
And, just a reminder for others who are interested in the Wednesday evening GA (General Aviation) events, you'll get a warm welcome so come and join in - there is a mix of experience and the emphasis is on having some fun (and learning some new things) details are posted on the 'Information' thread (to try and keep things tidy) so have a look here for the plan for the coming Wednesday: https://forum.flightgear.org/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=39213

this... it is what i had to do to take the c172p to 19000ASL without adding oxygen injection and carrying oxygen tanks to feed the engine, let alone myself...

i generally always climb at 700fps for as long as possible... then i tweak the AP for maybe 500 and use that for as long as possible if 500 is viable at whatever altitude 700 is no longer viable... in any case, i step the fps down a little as i go higher and higher until i've reached my desired or the max, whatever i'm aiming for... it just takes a lot of time...

oh, and i do also much prefer the 180HP engine in the c172p... even without the floats/amphibious being fitted ;)

VY is at sealevel 74kts. Some prefer to fly 85kts as a cruise climb so you have better forward view.
VY increases with altitude!

Carb heat affects engine performance.

So low ? I never dared to fly the C172p at 75 kts because I'm so used to the C208B, and that stalls at 75kt without flaps !

I do think it's the stock C182s, just with floats.
I'm not entirely sure, however, but an advertisiment for a sold plane did not mention another engine.
250HP are also not so less :)
