I tried a bit of the part 3 route Eagle, some of the turns are a little tight but i was in the dhc6 so maybe going a little faster than a 172. Would it be worth smoothing it out a little?

Well, I didn't try the route yet … looks like I should do it ! :)
And please don't tell me "it's your route !" - until now, all my routes were beautiful, right ? Well, and I tell you a secret: I always made my routes on the map !

:( I can't try the route before tomorrow - we've almost had an electrical fire here, and now I'm going to bed.

No, you can't compare a DHC6 with a Cessna 172. It's not only going faster, but also it is heavier so reacts slower to control inputs and simply has a bigger turn radius - this route is entirely doable in the c172. During the whole route, the maximum bank angle I needed was 20°.

Thanks for explaining that, I'll rethink bringing the 747 8i... ;)
Now, I have to rush off and get yet another new fuse for my sarcasm detector machine, haha

Yes, try flying it and see if you want to smooth it out in places. I suspect you will even in a 172 :)

Well, if a Boeing is too small, we could also use an Airbus 380 or even an Antonov 225 !

Flying cross country it is a good idea to have landmarks some 6min apart. Of course depending on how far they can be identified.

Anybody up to testing a 1hr route for a future event? No GPS, no Navaids. After comparing skyvector, openstreetmap and VFR-map, it could be that it is a bit too much to ask for. So maybe someone could test... private message welcome.

Hmm.. would you consider including one or two radio nav points, so in case one gets lost they may go to such point and try to continue with time/visual/compass nav?

Yes, there will be some kind of backup.
Good idea to do it as a new starting point.

Will you be making some changes Niels? I can wait before testing the route if so.

Thanks for testing Chris and Eagle!

There will be a change for have a good initial fix and a fall back route. I'll update tonight.
Maybe some of the middle parts are a bit too difficult, so feedback on this would be great.

As not everybody is familiar with navigation logs, I will add pre-filled forms.

Everything in preparation of a Wednesday adventure, which is a bit on the dangerous side.

I've just tested the route for tomorrow (Pyrenees part 3), and I think we should not use the Cessna 172 - it simply isn't performant enough. I had to use Ctrl + u at least 6 times. My advice is to switch to the Cessna 182.
