oh, geography....

Wasserkuppe=Röhn
Brocken=Harz

small comment on information Kilo: "Landstrasse" is any street not within a city.

Behind the Brocken there is the possibility to find wave lift. Which could be subject to another Wednesday evening

Thanks Ysop, I was now already searching for half an hour for something called Wasserkuppe around the Brocken ! :oops: And the Landstraße thing, … well, you are right. A highway is probably rather an Autobahn in Germany.
What the hell is wave lift ????? :?: :shock: :roll: :wink:

you need to know on what kind of street you are for the speed limits :-)

Sorry for the Wasserkuppe Lapse. In Hamburg view south of River Elbe is only Ruhrgebiet and Bavaria. In this order.

Maybe another time. Not sure, when lee waves appear in FGFS. We'll have another soaring event anyway sooner or later.

I'm sorry guys, (maybe I'll get it done until Wednesday), but I think we have to delay my trip. I've tried to install the nVidia drivers to get better framerates, and after wards I couldn't change my screen brightness anymore. After that, I tried to install the newest kernel, which caused my system not to boot any more at all. Long story short: I had to reinstall my system, which took me all day, so I wasn't able to continue my scenery work. I don't want to give you a scenery just containing default materials … Maybe we do the Italy trip first, and then the Brocken trip ? I'll delete my event post and recreate it afterwards, in that case.

Never change a running system ;-)

Do we need the custom scenery for the trip? (Apart from artificial landing strip?) Should be enjoyable anyway. But for sure we can shift schedule.

Another idea for future events would be to have an evening of "plane talk". Some airplanes are developed very far and are very complex. So it could be worth inviting developers for introduction and questions.

Scenery: eagle did already put effort in and i would vote for postponing the trip until he is ready; especially as we have no rush AND plenty of ideas in the backlog.

Plane talk: sounds nice and you can count on me for the c182 and also the c172 if you like. Especially the 182 has some hidden advanced gems worth exploring, like playing with the advanced failure modes (which are more advanced than in the 172!). Also the icing simulation is quite nice, it even can freeze the static ports. The 182 as far as i know is also the only fgfs plane simulating the fuel injection system fully (to the extend that you can have spark plug icing).

However, i think such talk should be followed by some flight afterwards to put the newly learned things into practice. Also, i think we probably need several evenings for each plane, the c182 is so complex i certainly cant show everything in one evening.

yes, makes sense to postpone. Alternative route?

Great, benih! I was already counting on you for the C182. Great that you jump on the idea without too much persuasion :-) Thanks in advance.There are already two other candidates.
The format should definitely include some flying and not only lectures. Spreading over more than one evening makes sense.

I think you need at least one evening for the KAP140.
There are real pilots that not fully understand how this device works and we have build it according to the official manual.

I think one of you should have a plan B in hand, but would it be possible to wait with the final decision until Tuesday ? I might get it done until Wednesday, then there would be no need to postpone ! But we can of course do another trip this week and mine next week, all the same.

Woodstock: great that you mentioned it! Yes, the kap deserves its time, especially the advanced modes.
I think it is easy to operate and it can do a good job, but you need really to know how that works.
The kap 140 training would also benefit alot of other planes as is widely used.
So maybe we should do it before my alp crossing idea :)

Maybe in this order:
- basic 172 familiarization and procedures
- kap 140 ins and outs
- 182 basic familiarization and procedures
- 182 engine and winter operation
- 182 icing, emergencies and extended failures

Along these lines sounds terrific!

Maybe in clear distinction to "flight training", which would have been set up differently.
Although the idea of checkrides via jitisi is tempting. "No pressure, just 20 people watching..."

Doing my share, when things are ready.
