Wednesday evening session discussion thread.

Postby Ysop » Sun Apr 11, 2021 12:48 pm

Gentlemen,

it looks like our Wednesday group flights are developing into a nice established event.

Usually we are under way as group flight on general aviation aircraft.
Maybe flying cross country in a scenic area, maybe throwing in one or the other aviation challenge, but in any case it should be relaxed event.

We'll keep this thread for weekly updates. Usually it is 19:30 UTC on the ramp and 20:00 wheels up.
Feel free to join in! Just drop a reply saying, what your initial starting position is going to be, so aircrafts are not being stacked on each other. Also it is a nice touch to say with which aircraft you use, so we can download and see it in multiplayer.

Next event:
Always in the last post of https://forum.flightgear.org/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=39213

I will use grass1 with my blue c182s!

(edit: watch out, some parking places starting from grass5 lat/lon syntax are not well formed above)

Welcome, Daniel!

grass3 PA28 for me

Weather update:
Looks good!

I'll post a jitsi-link for easy communication. It hopefully works without an account.
edit: @benih: thanks for the hint. Coordinates changed in initial post.

It does: just register an room (freely choosable).

An idea comes to mind: Why not choosing a generic room name which we just reuse every session? This link can be posted centrally in the first posting. I have not tested if this works, however.

Another thing: As we usually use GA aircraft, it may be a good idea to include this in the topic title: "Wednesday evening GA group flight"

Mumble depends:
  • just for talking, jitsi is easy snd fine and has the benefit that the host-of-the-day can show things on his screen
  • If you want to habe realistic radio comms, you can try out fgcom-mumble (see my sig below for further info); i would be happy if you did :)
You will need a special mumble development version currently for that to work, and install a plugin. Its not so hard and i can help you if you want

yeah okay - I heard about fgcom-mumble already but since i was not flying MP at the time I never tried it. I suppose jitsi will work fine for today for me. looking forward to flying later :)

by the way - at the moment it's a rather strong and gusty wind here. do we use live weather?

No it will not: it’s wednesday session and its only tuesday on my calendar...

Do we use live weather

Last Wednesday we had to use live weather because of bad live weather, but i think we decide this when preparing for the start.

Hopefully you can join in.

We have to cheat a bit anyway a bit, as we are outside the operating hours of the airfields. So we'll do that to our convenience.

There is going to be an extra little challenge along the way. To be presented once in the air.

I've tried with compiling mumble 1.4 or appimage. No success, so we'll stick with jitsi, which was working pretty good.

Hi there,

normally I don't want to self-advertise here ;) but as most of the islands you are going to fly over on this route will be at least partially flooded or really outdated when using terrasync, you might want to use my custom scenery for this area, packed for this event here: https://github.com/D-ECHO/NorthSea-EventPack or use a zip file from here: https://github.com/D-ECHO/NorthSea-Even ... s/tag/v1.1

Given that these islands are mostly sea-level, I don't expect there to be larger problems when some people have it installed and others don't, but of course it's up to you whether you allow it for the event or not ,)
