Alps Tour LOWI-EP07 07/4 19:00 UTC (landing challenge)

Postby benih » Thu Apr 01, 2021 7:46 am

We want to do a next leg coming wednesday, same time (wheels up 19:00) going north from Innsbruck.

The route Takes us from the scenic Inntal valley via Achensee trough the Voralpenland to Tegernsee and shortly north of it to the small airfield of Warngau, a 550x10m asphalt runway surrounded by woods and no-fly areas over the surrounding towns - use lots of flaps and go slow.
(In reality this airfield is closed to the public; but hosts two C182T),

Innsbruck has plenty of parking space at the GA terminal (GA01 to GA10), so please again say which spot you'll take so we won't crash into each other.

For the landing challenge, we need a plan on how we want to do it. We need to expect lots of Go-Arounds and i think only one could try it at a given time, blocking the runway. Traffic altitude is a nonstandard 3500ft, with the airfield at 2369ft.

For those that survived the landing, we could continue north to munich if we like (+20 minutes or so).

I think it would help us if we could get some coordination from an ATC :)

I really think i will take the C182S this time, so you can see Sascha's and Josh's KAP140, and maybe also the new davtron clock.
I will start at GA08.

Again, I will be on the FGCom-mumble test server if you like to try this out.

I'm in as well. GA06.

Presumably on the C182 to celebrate the constant updates this aircraft receives.

Thanks for joining! That (again) was lot's of fun!
We had to use fair weather because real conditions probably would not have allowed this flight.

The landing challenge at Warngau /EP07 was nice, the runway is really short and narrow, and also hard to spot from above.
With the C182s you need to configure for short field landing and really go in slow. Avoiding the real no-fly zones makes the final approach really short (we had to land from the north and to avoid the town). If you are just a little too fast or too high, the plane won't come down, what urges one to force it down. Too slow or too low on the other hand makes you land in the grass....

Ysop had to leave there, but Volador, WoodSTokk and I did spontaneously fly to Salzburg to close our loop started several weeks ago....
What a nice trip, and new friends made :)

Shortly after takeoff LOWI i was first with three other planes directly following (already airborne at/next to the runway):

For next week Volador and/or Ysop are preparing something.
Maybe beach-landing in the Piper Cub in the Carribean :)
Or something in northern germany.

Stay tuned!

All down safely at the first stop-off, there were a couple of go-rounds though... and this was a tricky visual approach, tricky because you can hardly see the small runway!

Fun to fly with a group, thanks everyone :)

That was highly enjoyable!

Just maybe the landing strip a bit too long....

Watch this space.
