Re: I have to laugh not to cry...

Hi is there any difference in flightprosim.com and proflightsimulator.com??? The first link has only very old FlightGear screenshots. The second one has only a few FlightGear screenshots and many pictures from some MSFS garbage (don't know ...

Re: Seeeeriously FlightProSim?

...I some time later found the "Disclaimer", where you can download the source code. The GPL, at least v2, only requires them to share the source code with the receivers/customers (and allows them to charge for the storage medium and transport, but not more for the source code).* The cust...

Re: Seeeeriously FlightProSim?

I have just seen this topic, looked at the flightprosim site and loughed for the next 10 minutes ;), but I have one question: They say (bottom of their page) the source code would be "available in members area", as it has to be with ...

Re: Seeeeriously FlightProSim?

Sorry for continuing the drift off topic. No worries. :) ...the wish of the artist to license the copyrighted material with the GPL is almost guaranteed to hold up in court. A court is unlikely to rule that the use of the GPL is invalid. But if so, the fall back is to an unlicensed copyrighted work...

Re: Seeeeriously FlightProSim?

Regardless of license, It would certainly be easier to modify artwork if the "source" was provided. I create liveries as .svg files, with layers, scalable paint objects, information about fonts, etc. Deriving a new livery would be much easier with the source. That's also true of things lik...

Re: Seeeeriously FlightProSim?

The GPL is only problem for artwork from the perspective of the original artist, in the sense that the fine legal implications are not perfectly clear (what is the "program" and what is the "source code"). However, this is offset by the fact that the original artist can dual-lice...

Re: Seeeeriously FlightProSim?

If GPL is not suitable for artwork, how does that affect the liveries database (and aircraft that have bundled liveries)? The uploads are .xml and .png files but the "sources", which are usually .xcf or .svg are not uploaded. The same is probably true of a lot of textures in aircraft.

The GNU GPL license and artwork (images, 3D models etc.)

Some posts was split off from the topic Seeeeriously FlightProSim? ... is it legal to have a GPL picture of something non-GPL? Yep, unless a software's license says otherwise. The GPL do not care how the software is used though. Using screenshots and ...

Re: Seeeeriously FlightProSim?

They even have a SpaceShuttle? Really? I don't think so, mate. And I recognize most of those. None from me, but I feel like uploading a all rights reserved picture to the FG wiki, emailing it to them, and then getting the site closed down for xopyright violation :P To re emerge at ProSimFlight Wait,...

Re: Seeeeriously FlightProSim?

you could also watermark any FG screen shots, adding the URL to flightgear.org, as well as the creation date and version of FlightGear - including possibly your name/nick name in the digital watermark, as well as the words "free open source flight simulator"

Re: Seeeeriously FlightProSim?

The nice thing is those screenies are so old they look awful compared to FG!
That's why its important that we update the gallery page.
