Re: Limited CPU & GPU usage?

And the VulkanSceneGraph, if adopted, promises modern graphics for Flightgear too! :-D

... or Vulcan, only on OpenGL. To learn more about Vulkan in the context oft FlightGear, see the comments archived at: https://wiki.flightgear.org/VulkanSceneGraph

Re: We'll soon need a MUCH better terrain engine :-)

Did I read somewhere FG should be / will be migrated to VulkanSceneGraph ? https://wiki.flightgear.org/Vulkan_Scene_Graph Tho for ray tracing to become really popular, we need to see a few more GPU generations with it... not only from NVidia but also ...

This is a 'should' as in 'someone really should be doing this eventually' with no idea who that 'someone' is and what the timescale is. :|

Re: We'll soon need a MUCH better terrain engine :-)

... it doesn't seem to be there in OSG: https://groups.google.com/g/osg-users/c/yR9HEcnsMb0 Did I read somewhere FG should be / will be migrated to VulkanSceneGraph ? In that case we would get ray tracing out of the box with an RTX extension … and sorry for spamming this thread … will stop that ...

It will be loooong wait :(

Maybe, maybe not. We now use OpenSceneGraph and de main developer of that is also developing VulkanSceneGraph and in fact is using FlightGear data to test things.

Re: Threadripper 1920 (12/24 threads)+Vega56 = 10fps in W10?

... with AMD. These early results may be misleading and there could be more to com. Also Robert has seen a bigger proportionate improvement with VulkanSceneGraph. Stuttering whilst scenery, models and textures load (or textures are paged back in) is entirely to be expected; it's just the way ...

Re: Microsoft Flight Simulator, a small graphics study

... a decade yet, as no one has ever identified a spot in the code that could be threaded to relieve a CPU bottleneck. 2) Like you mention, there is VulkanSceneGraph . This evolution of OSG will still need some more time to bake. Would switching from OSG to VSG really be something that cannot be ...

Re: Microsoft Flight Simulator, a small graphics study

... is all known by the community already, I've seen some of the discussions in the multi-core wiki article. A solution would be to rewrite FG using VulkanSceneGraph or something similar, while carefully rewriting the SGSubsystem loop to be multithreaded via a job dispatching system (or something ...

Re: Apple stopping support for OpenGL

... This is going to affect a lot of 3d on OSX. The change of status to deprecated gives an uncertain[1] future, however with the OSG folks starting VulkanSceneGraph (which is going to take at least many years) there is a path forwards. Paraphrasing [2] If Apple wants to shoot itself in the foot, ...
