There is a very easy to use script that will install terragear, the gui and all dependencies http://forum.flightgear.org/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=14849. However that is for Linux. Not sure if that helps you. I personally have no clue about MacOS.

I'm running mac too here is how I solved:

1) Install VirtualBox
2) Istall Debian on it (I've also tried ubunu but it didn't work)
3) Use the download-and-compile-tg script from http://clemaez.dyndns.org/

It will install terragear and terragearGUI

Have fun! :)

Remember, Terragear was never intended to used by an end user. It was designed to be run on a Linux server. It's been almost 3 years since I've started looking at this code. It took almost a full year of hacking on it before I was confident enough to commit changes.
It is not user friendly. It was once my intention to make it easier to use and add features. Over time, it became obvious that this was optimistic. Bug fixes pretty much takes all of my time.

That's not to say that I can't imagine an easy to use toolchain, unfortunately, we just don't have the resources to work toward this goal. If anyone is interested, I could help explain how the tools work, and how the code works.
