Saitek X52 Flight Control System compatible with Mac OS 10.5

Postby Latteman » Tue Sep 23, 2008 10:44 pm

Does anybody know if the Saitek X52 Flight Control System is compatible with Mac OS 10.5.5? I haven't tried FlightGear yet, but am looking for a flight simulator that is more realistic than Blazing Angels of WWII for the Nintendo Wii! Fun game, but not very much real flying! I would want a joystick (or better) to work with the simulator and the Saitek X52 Flight Control System looked to be one of the better ones if it would work with my Mac Pro. At the same time, do you know if the rudder pedals work on the mac?

From the X-Plane forum, it looks like you'll be okay, but note that configuring joysticks in FlightGear isn't as straightforward as it could be if I remember correctly. I'd check the wiki for getting joysticks to work within fgfs.

I am almost certain it will work, you may need to create a custom joystick configuration, but that's copying-and-pasting an XML file together, which most people would be comfortable with. There's an existing X52 and X52-pro configs in CVS, only issue is whether the axis/button assignment is the same on Mac - for my Sidewinder, the name reported is slightly different from Windows, but again it's a trivial mod to fix.

So, I am sure you can get this working, possibly with a little bit of help here.

Here's the X52 config file in CVS:
http://cvs.flightgear.org/viewvc/data/Input/Joysticks/Saitek/X52.xml?revision=1.4&view=markup

The X52-pro is in the same dir, go up a level and you'll see it. There's quite a few names defined already, but adding another 'name' entry is trivial.

Yes, you can use both X52 and Saitek pedal on Mac OS X 10.5 by default.

I'm using X52 and Saitek Pedal with no problem.
You can use these on both FlightGear 1.0.0 and FlightGear/CVS binary packages.
FYI, mac version of X52 configuration file is different from the one in cvs (since I want to have nicer one for myself :-))

By the way, currently the FlightGear Mac OS X website is down due to database outage of sourceforge during their database migration process. Please download the binary packages from:

http://downloads.sourceforge.net/macfli ... 0-r154.dmg (latest release version)

Hi Tat,

Perhaps your X52 config ought to replace the one in CVS? That one doesn't look all that great to me, and I know the CVS X52 Pro config (which AnMaster based on the X52 ) isn't all that impressive, though much better.

Of course, JS configs are a very personal thing and once I've got my own X52 pro config sorted out it will very probably only suit me :-)
