Thrustmaster basic joystick

Postby VicMar » Thu Jan 26, 2012 3:05 pm

Hi,

After many years of using FG with just mouse and keyboard (I do have a 5 minute yoke), I would like to get a joystick.

!. I know that the cheapest is not necessarily the way to go, but can anyone tell me if the Thrustmaster joystick is any good for a Mac user? I ask because all the data I can find says it works with Windows, but there is no mention of Macs.

2. Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced joystick which will work on a Mac.?

Cheers,
Vic

A joystick is just a usb input device..so any normal joystick should work just fine on mac. I have the Thrustmaster T1600M which I've been more than happy here using Linux. A great basic joystick for under $50..twist axis, uses hall effect sensors so shouldn't easily wear out or get noisy, can be setup left or right handed (I fly lefty), and has a nice heavy base to keep it stable. My only gripe with it is the stupidly bright (and pointless) green light under the stick that is on any time you move an axis. I ended up just covering it with black tape and all is well though.

cheers

If all USB joysticks are compatible with Macs then I would wholeheartedly recommend the Thrustmaster HOTAS X at $50 CAD (around 25£ I'd say). It is a great price/value joystick.

It can be split in two parts and has a great big rocker switch that I use as my rudder control.

Hi Tiger,

That one looks great. I particularly like the separation ability, and the rocker switch must be the next best thing to foot pedals.

I have had a quick look at their availability and they seem to be around the £20 to £30 mark.

I will wait to see if any others are particularly recommended, then take the plunge when the cash is available.

Thanks for your suggestion.

Cheers,
Vic

This one is still rock-solid after a year of use :D

Hi again,

Sorry to put this thread around a second circuit, but I don't seem to have had any response from Mac users.

If you are a Mac user who uses a Joystick with FG, could you please give me some details similar to those given by 439Tiger.

Any info much appreciated.

Best regards,
Vic
