Talking about the weather is a typically British way to pass time, so I had better not encourage you too much.

Next we start on how much worse our old and disabled are treated these days.........(sorry to say I now fit in both categories). Poor but honest and proud.

Cheers,
Vic

No worries about the weather discussions. :)

Anyway, I've gotten power back tonight, so here's a screenshot of my own FlightGear app window showing the anti-aliasing settings. Hopefully this will help you figure them out on your end.

Yours is on the left. Spot the difference! The 2D version Cessna shows the same as the other one.
ImageMine is the donload from the Mac OS X download page. Where did your version come from?

Hi Vic Mar

Well if it can give you any better feeling, i got the same as you , i mean an antialisaing option but without any cursor to select the "scale" of it.
Anyway, i am not sure my mac will handle it pretty, but if it can help i had a look in our wonderful Wiki and it seems you can just start antialiasing and set the value using 2 line code when launching FG

--prop:/sim/rendering/multi-sample-buffers=true
--prop:/sim/rendering/multi-samples=4

i guess (thats hat i do the best :) ) that the second line indicate the "scale" thus you can just use these 2 lines and change the value (4 to any other one between 2 and 8)
I am also curious of this different version !
Cheers

Hi Pat,

Thanks for joining in with some expert knowledge about command lines. I am pretty hopeless unless I can find what I want in the 'Options' list.

However, using Dragonmaster Lou's logic: If using a lower level of Anti-aliasing works better for him, I reckon that by switching AA off completely I should be getting the best result.

Is that logical?

Cheers,
Vic

Hi Vic,

This is far beyond my knowledge, i have no idea of the real way anti aliasing is working, i am mostly using 2.0 and sometimes (only sometimes 2.4). I had an overview of the antialiasing effect from the wiki and it seems to give a better dispaly and rendering but i guess it depends a lot of your Graphic card. Here on my mac my HD radeon 4670 is giving me headhacks (blinking, default shaders appearing often and so on). I could never solve it and this seems more related to a memory issue and therefore the few times i used 2.4 i disabled AA.
I ll probably give it a try again using the "scale" value to see if i get better results and for sure as i get better idea i will post it there.
Cheers

Essentially, what anti-aliasing does is smooth out the lines and textures drawn on your screen so that they appear less "jagged." However, this comes at a price -- it does require your CPU and graphics card to work harder to draw the graphics. The higher the anti-aliasing is turned up, the greater the load on your computer.

As far as where I downloaded my copy from, I got it from the main FG site: http://www.flightgear.org/download/

It's possible the other MacOS X site may not have quite the same exact version as the main site.

Hi Lou,
Thanks for the AA info.

I am downloading the same version, so I should be able to see if there are any differences.

I will be interested to see if the bug I reported is in that version too. If the versions are different, it must be confusing for the developers to sort errors.

I should have some time to do a comparison this evening. I'll report back after.

Well, there definitely are 2 different versions. 1 on the Mac OS X downloads page, and 1 on the official downloads page.

The 1 on the official downloads page seems to have a fault which means Scenery-TerraSync is not being updated.

Unless Tat has picked up this thread, I guess I had better ask him about this.

Incidentally, the bug I reported (425) applies to both versions.

I will report back when I have something concrete.

In the mean time, if any of you have used the official version and have managed to get Scenery-TerraSync to update, please let us know how.

Cheers,
Vic

AFAICS the FG main site points to the same file as does the macflightgear sourceforge project (FG.org just points to macflightgear's file). So I can't see how the downloads could differ. Unless you have downloaded using the torrent...

Ooops, sorry, I thought I had explained. Now I see that was on another thread.

Anyway, much to my embarrassment, the version I had from the mac OS X downloads was 2.4.0 RC1.

The fault I reported has also been cured. It was my Mac that was causing the problem.
