Airplane Nerd Heaven

Postby Kaptain Krunch » Sat Jun 04, 2011 4:04 am

...And I am going once again. One of the perks of living in close to Philly. Makes for one hell of a birthday present to myself!!!
Have a great camera with me this year. Hopefully I'll have some great warbird porn to stick up here for everyone to gawp at in the next few days.

AND...anyone who is within reach of Reading, PA-DROP EVERYTHING AND GET TO WWII WEEKEND TOMORROW OR SUNDAY! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!

You Lucky Guy TM! :D

If possible, record some audio as well. (See the topic Merlin Music, and probably many others...)

Okay, just a few for starters... Bear in mind that I am no professional photographer, and don't have a telephoto lens.
Still, too many awesome sights to not share. Enjoy!
Image
Yankee Lady on the Ground.
Image
C-46 Commando "Tinker Belle"...Always loved this plane; first one I have ever seen in person. Never noticed how much this thing DWARFS the C-47!
Image
Speaking of C-47s, one I have known well since I was a kid- "Yankee Doodle Dandy" of the Yankee Air Force in my native Michigan. Been seeing this one at air shows since I was about nine!
Image
B-29 "Fifi" takes to the air! They were giving rides in her (WAAAAY outta my price range!), but you NEVER get used to seeing this all day long.
Image
How many cool things can fit into a single frame?! I even managed to get Reading PA's famous hilltop pagoda in this pic.
Image
The Dauntless poses for her closeup. Yes, you could buy a ride in this one, too. Wow. Lucky devils.
Image
B-25 "Panchito" (Also available for rides! Ugh!) revs up on the ramp between flights.
Image
Panchito has a very pretty face...
Image
Luckiest shot of the day. Right before I got to bask in the prop wash from that Mk XVIII Spitfire, the Val was overhead.
Image
Nose art of the day...
Image
Lucky shot of the Helldiver (Yes, a HELLDIVER!) on a photopass.

Nice pics. :D

Somehow I never noticed the B-25 has tricycle landing gear, maybe I should give it a try. :D I'm a bit into WWII aircraft, but just can't handle tail draggers even though I have 7 hours tracked in the SpitfireIX. :|

Agreed, a nice selection, especially "Take Off Time", a pity the B-25 we have is the wrong mark, I could have fun putting that livery on it

It's a nice plane to fly, but it has a free castering nose wheel, so to steer it on the ground you need to use engines or differential braking until you get up enough speed for the rudders to take effect.

Try the B-24 or A-26 they have nose wheel steering.

Our A-26 is a hoot to fly. Haven't tried the B-25 in FG...Recently started goofing with Combat Flight Simulator 3 (Yeah, I'm a late bloomer- or a relic), and the B-25s in that are kinda fun.
