Latest-release (2.0.0-r284 - May-22-2011)

Postby g.hekt » Sat May 28, 2011 10:27 pm

I just ran across the Mac-site and found out that just a few days ago there has been a new release, v. 2.0.0-r284
http://macflightgear.sourceforge.net/home/

Does this have any noticeable improvements or is it small bugfix release? I am asking myself if I should update now or wait for a bigger update that is gonna hopefully come out for OSX as well.

Thanks for any info

Like you, I failed to find any release info on the Mac site. I think we still have to allow for Tat being a bit tied up with real life (after the Japan earthquakes and nuclear reactor problems).

I suggest you download the new version to see if details of the changes are included in the package. That is what I am doing.

Best regards,
Vic

2.0.0-r284:
- Fixed a bug that crashes FlightGear while showing splash screen, with "unknown exception" log.
- Fixed the clouds flickering on some nVidia chips such as GeForceGT 330M

There you go.

Cheers,
Vic

Has anybody else tried this version too?

After flying with it for a few weeks now I must say it fixed the clouds but other things got worse:
- FG takes much longer to start - about two minutes longer than usual, and I mean just loading the GUI where you choose aircraft and airport and such.
- FGFS runs a bit heavier for the computer - I sometimes think that my MacBook Pro is going to explode in heat while hearing the cooler make the loudest noise I've ever heard. It's scary. And I haven't put any extra settings for better picture, in fact I reduced the overall quality in order to keep the noise not too loud but it's still the loudest I've heard.
- When exiting FGFS, sometimes FG crashes and gets closed as well
- And I started experiencing strange new bugs in my usual aircraft, the Hondajet. Speed and altitude values get multiplied by two (i.e. spd is being shown as 240 instead of 120 kts) and as a result you see your plane flying with the doubled speed but behaving like flying with the desired speed. Altitude values get very confusing too.

Any ideas or other experiences would be appreciated
Cheers

Hi Again,
There is a pretty stable development snapshot available from
http://macflightgear.sourceforge.net/home/downloads/ It runs straight from the box and everything is in the download. I use the 'Download scenery on the fly; option. This lets you launch at an airport other than KSFO, but the first launch will not have any scenery showing. Wait a minute, then launch at the same airport and you should then have scenery. Sometimes it takes 2 goes to get the scenery.

Apart from everything (graphics wise) appearing a bit darker, this seems to be a good version. I suggest you give it a try.

If you are still having the same problems with this version, it must be something adrift on your Macbook.

HTH,
Cheers,
Vic

Thanks Vic. I started downloading but I have one question.
Do I need any specific version of FlightGear? Or how do I install this snapshot and replace my current version (the one from the topic)?

I couldn't find any information about this on macflightgear.sourceforge.net and I was never able to find a tutorial about updating in general of the mac-version.

You just treat it as a completely new FG. You can either put it in your apps folder, or keep it in a separate place, like on your desk top. If you keep it separate you will remove the risk of any existing files affecting the new ones.

As long as you keep them separate you can have as many versions on your Mac as you like. I currently have 5 including 2 GIT versions.

You don't need to do anything except install the new version.

I hope you can get past the problem.

Cheers,
Vic

Hello,

I'm pretty satisfied with the new release. It fixes a issue with some FDM I had (http://www.flightgear.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=49&t=11801). The rest behaves like the previous without noticeable changes.
Even frame rates are like before. But I'm running it on a tower MacIntel with 8 GB RAM.
The issue with the Honda-Jet sounds to me, like may have accidentally hit the a-key. Try A (Shift+a) then it should run with normal speed again. I didn't tested the Honda Jet, but I use a lot of different planes and they all behave normal here.
Altitude: check if you have selected feet or meters.

Hello,

though I havend had serious problems with the new release yet, now I discover a issue. If I try to launch the Concorde V. 2.6 FG crashes while the splash-screen displays "setting up time & renderer". The same plane worked well in the former version.
The log-file looks not very helpful. The last lines are:

After fgInitTimeOffset(): warp = -5760
Panel visible = 0
trigger listener #40
trigger listener #61
trigger listener #65
trigger listener #62
trigger listener #66
Splash screen progress loading scenery objects

That seemend like it depends on the scenery, but happend on any airport.
