After receiving some requests, we have enabled smoke also for multiplayer mode (now it is possible to fly in formation with colored smokes on).

To start/stop smoke press j, to choose among the three colors press k (default is white), to decrease/increase smoke graphic quality press l / L (tip: decrease it if your computer is slow).

To try the new version of the model, go to http://hcilab.uniud.it/pan/ and download MB-339 PAN 2.0.

Hi Albert.
I downloaded the mb339pan zip folder yesterday and I installed it in FlightGears. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04. When I start the program, a warning is telling me it cannot find rollsroyce engine and suddently the program goes out. It seems you already faced this problem and I cannot understand where to modify file name. I noted in file mb339pan.xml there isn't ".xml" after file name rollsroyce. Could be this the reason why it cannot find it? Thanks for your answer!

Hi Alberto,

I've just discovered your MB-339 PAN 2.0. Very interesting aircraft, with a lot of work on it. Many thanks to you and everyboby of your team.
During testing, I've been tempted to make some modifications. What do you think of them?
1) Slip-skid-ball: didn't work
I've changed the sensitivity (and direction of displacement), and the angle too so that it rotates all along its glass tube. I'm not completely satisfied with its behaviour and I'm still trying to improve it (via FDM), but it's better:
(big-ai.xml)
Code: Select all
<property>/instrumentation/slip-skid-ball/indicated-slip-skid</property>
    <factor>-25</factor> <!-- ini 1 -->
    <min-deg>-10</min-deg> <!-- ini +/-7 -->
    <max-deg>10</max-deg>

2) From my feeling (not based on a knowledge of this aircraft in real life) the Rudder (alone, with no action on the ailerons) had a much too strong effect on roll.
I prefer this (which can still be adjusted):
(mp339pan.xml)
Code: Select all
<axis name="ROLL">
      <function name="aero/coefficient/Clb">
        <description>Roll_moment_due_to_beta</description>
        ............
          <property>aero/beta-rad</property>
          <value>-0.025</value> <!-- ini -0.1 -->

3) Engines: I had almost no sound, "prop-thrust" had no value in Internal Properties
I replaced it by:
(mp339pan-sound.xml)
Code: Select all
<engine>
      <name>engine</name>
        .........
      <volume>
        <property>/engines/engine/thrust_lb</property> <!-- ini prop-thrust -->

Maybe some of these were special to my system, anyway I let you judge for these suggestions, if this can help to still improve (if possible) this very pleasant aircraft.

Cheers

Dany

Thank you very much for your suggestions.
About the rudder, Massimo Tammaro, pilot of the italian aerobatic team Frecce Tricolori from 1998 to 2010, was the beta-tester for the development of the MB-339PAN package and gave us precious technical advice to make our virtual plane as realistic as possibile.

Hello,
Congratulations to the mb339pan developpement team.
And thank you for having made available to users of FG.
It is nice to drive and gives me much pleasure.

One thing worries me: the flaps seem to have no effect on the behavior of the aircraft. When we see the surfaces of the flaps of the 3d model that is not possible that they have no effect?!

Speaking of 3D model, the flaps are visible only from behind, they are transparent from the front.

Regards, Ernest

Is this aircraft still in development ?
A good flight sim is not to make people feel fly easier but to make them feel fly is as real as it get.

It was only a graphic problem without effects on the behavior.

I have the same issue - key "9" which purpose is to accelerate do not work in this plane. Everythink works - steers, brakes and so on, but acceleration NOT. Any idea? Thanks. (Mac Book Pro)

Hi Alberto,

Thank you for your reply.

But you did not answer my first question.
My flaps problem remains unresolved.
They have no effect on the behavior of the aircraft.
If I fly level at 150Kt and I go out the flaps, the plane continued at the same speed and remains in the same attitude, then it should slow down and pull up a bit, no?

Regards.

I haven't tried the newer version yet. But the older version works nicely with 1.9.1 :)
