It is a scam because it's false advertising. Have you seen their ads? They have videos and screenshots from FSX in there.

... and they advertise via huge volumes of spam and every possible back handed trick to try to game search engine ratings. They are definitely a group that will say anything and do anything to get a sale, and then once you hand over your money, good luck. And I mean that seriously, anyone who's given the proflightsim guys money really could use some better luck in the future.

Yea, it probably IS a scam but it's not illegal... If it is, why doesn't FG sue them?

If it's not illegal, suing isn't really ...practical.
Besides, would it be worth it to spend months and huge sums of money to solve this?

(I mean, it'd be great if we could do that, but since the legal system's just another monopoly now...)

-Just another reason why FlightGear advertising helps. :D
Look for "B-BIRD" "N127KY" or "AVA0004" -that's me.

Despite having over 1700 posts here, I am not even close to being the most skilled guy here... I'm just words and bad drawing, not experience. :P

Hi,

I use regulary the phishing report website of Google in order to blacklist this website.
You can do that here : http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/report_phish/

If we are many many many people to report this website as an fake website we can convince Google to blacklist this website then her website will become like this :
Image

I've reported the
Code: Select all
www.proflightsimulator.com
2 times the 18 September

Flightgear scam??

Postby 3ric » Wed Jan 18, 2012 10:31 pm

Moderator: merged with the existing topic.

sorry in advance if I've posted this in the wrong category. this doesn't really fit into anything.

I was looking around at other flight simulators and found this:
proflightsimulator.com
look at the screenshots. to me it looks exactly like flightgear. in some of them you can see the flightgear toolbar. these guys are trying to sell it for $50 (base package) and $100 for the world scenery. it even has source code available.

Hi 3ric,

Please can you edit you message and put the website domain in code balise as follow :
Code: Select all
proflightsimulator.com

When you use code balise, bots (Google, Yahoo, Bing...) doesn't store the website domain but if you kept the website domain outside of code balise you promote the website domain because bots store it...
Thanks you ;)

Cheers,
Clément

It would almost be tempting (hypothetically speaking) to open up a google or facebook ad account and advertise:

DOWNLOAD PRO FLIGHT SIM FOR FREE!!!!!

or

FREE PRO FLIGHT SIM UPGRADES FOR LIFE!!!!!!

etc.

And then link back to FlightGear.

(A little of their own medicine and absolutely truthful) :-)

And unfortunately not legal. FPS is a separate brand and product though based on the same code but still a different and legal product. Claiming a free FPS download leads to a legal allegation of piracy. The fact that we know what is meant does not necessarily mean that an attorney sees it the same way.

I'm not a lawyer, but it's not illegal or piracy to download our own free product. We are just (hypothetically) leveraging the idea that their product is just flightgear. I'm not advocating that someone do this, just pointing out what it might look like to play the game by their rules.

Why not something like this:

THINKING OF BUYING FLIGHTPROSIM

As FlightProSim is a rebrand of an earlier version of FlightGear why not try the latest up to date version of the free opensource FlightGear before you buy. (link to flightgear.org)

There surely can't be any problem with that as it's factual.
