Right and this is the reason why it should be handled by lawyers.
Taking it into own hands, verbally or physically, makes things even worse and ends up with much worse stands than before.

I would check very carefully that the registrar is one I would like to do business with before jumping on any such offer.

That's a really good piece of advice. I'm wondering if there even is such a thing as a .pro top domain...

And that limited time offer is, well, smelling fishy.

This sounds like a scam I was reading about in a computer magazine.
They target various companies etc. and sell them domain names, that they have no rights to, and then disappear with the money.

After a pleasant and long email conversation with the man behind Earthflightsim, I have learned some good things.

• They are not yet selling any products.

• They plan to abide by the GPL, and honestly operate their business.

• They will make the source code available to us

• They will contribute their work back to our project

• They are using the revenue from this to help fuel development of their own personal project

So long that they are honest and do not bash our work, I have no problems with them selling a copy of Flightgear, especially since they are actually going to contribute back to our community.

The guy was polite, and very cooperative. He did not avoid answering my questions, which earns him a a lot more respect than the people behind proflightscam.

If/when they turn to a sinister presence and start making negative statements about us, I can assure that it will be a war and I will do all in my power to make their business miserable.

I just checked earth flight sim dot com, and I'm not so sure, Jack. Pardon my cynism but this might be the same guy behind FPS, and he's just toying around with you. For instance, EFS is STILL using our screenshots- and some of them are fairly recent too. (I even see one from FS9/FSX- what?)

<fail>I don't know why they would post this image...

I mused about that possibility for a couple hours.

His attitude when I asked if he was related to Proflightscam was a "Hell no!" type response. Maybe he is pulling my leg, maybe not. Only time can tell.

If they do turn out to be trouble, I know his email and will definitely do what I can to make their business difficult. I'll start blogs, review sites, facebook pages, twitter accounts, register domains, purchase adspace, whatever. I'll make sure they never live to see the day when there site has a decent pagerank or they get a single purchase.

BTW, I'd like to point out the proflightscam is hosted by LiquidWeb, which happens to be one of the most upstanding web hosts that ever existed. They've been hosting my sites since 2007 and I have nothing but the highest regards for them as a web hosting company. If someone in charge of FG took about 2 minutes to let LiquidWeb know what proflightscam was doing, I'm sure they'd shut that site down.

PFS people should be afraid of Google's new algorithm update; since FPS sites are mostly copies of eachother (textwise) :)
Google blog wrote:This update is designed to reduce rankings for low-quality sites—sites which are low-value add for users, copy content from other websites or sites that are just not very useful.

Double checking at IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority) conforms your finding. They seem to spit out new domains left and right. (.pro delegation from IANA, current top domains and IANA Wikipedia article)

My lawyer and I have hit a road block. We cannot go any further with investigations until somebody downloads the windows version and sees what has changed! :o

I posted a link in an earlier message, I think a few pages back.
