eurofighter typhoon

Postby MaverickAlex » Mon May 05, 2008 9:00 am

i have been working on the eurofighter typhoon for a couple of weeks now and am doing the cockpit at the moment.

i have lots of photo's of the cockpit but none at close range so i can see what the button are, especially the illuminated ones on the HUD.

anyone got any close up photos?

i have googled it and found a few but none close enough.

Image

hopefully in a week or so i may have a flyable version if i borrow all the xml files ect.

Hi Alex,

this looks great! I am ready to assist with FDM, animations and/or texture mapping if you like. But, just like the stairs I need a Model. Doesn't need everything, but gears, wings, stabilizers, and engines.

Btw. Your link has some excellent reference for the MiG-29. Seems like I'm going to do some work on this one too...

Greetings!

hi dietlef. thanks very much for the offer which i will take you up on.

i have tried to keep items seperate within the model such as stabilisers etc, cockpit canopy. i have yet to do the landing gear but i will be on with it soon.

i will let you know when i think it is ready for you and will try to get as much information for you.

can you tell me what info you would require?

i have engine power,mass,dimensions etc.

but what otherthings would you require?

i am glad the link has helped.

i thought it was a fantastic tool for modellers working on cockpits.

regards

Alex

Hi Alex,

I can get some geometry data from the model, but some are hard to measure or guess. It would be good to know about:

-wing incidence angle (how much is the leading edge above the trailing edge),
-dihedral (how much is the wingtip above/below the wing root).

-twist of the wings

-sweep angle

If you can get these fore both, the wing and the canards would be great.

-the slat/flap/aileron layout (how all the surfaces are controlled, e.g the MiG-29's flaps are controlled by the pilot, while the slats are automatic.

-Power settings and engine RPM for cruise, landing and high speed in various altitudes.

-the speeds for clean/dirty stall, ideally with stall angle of attack.

-positions and capacity of fuel tanks.

Note that all these are not actually required, but it helps getting closer to "the real thing".

thanks for the link HHS, i will have to leave that for DFABER (my germans not so good)

here's a list of what is left to do ,plus many of the specs for the Eurofighter.

TO DO LIST

textures required, only some of the textures appear to be exporting from sketchup? model requires some good realistic textures, possibly similar to flying toasters F14 Tomcat.

Airbrake behind the cockpit has not been done, i forgot about it.

Animations

All components that require animating have been made into seperate groups.

landing gear. opening of the gear doors and then gear up/down.

front canards, angle to 90 degrees also used as airbrakes on landing.

nav lights (port starboard,tail)

throttle movement syncronized with the thrust. (similar to harrier model)

rear parachute deployment on landing (similar to sr-71 or vulcan bomber)
afterburner flames

Eurofighter Flight Information

Image

canard wing area 2.4 m2

wing sweep angle 53 degrees
wing incident angle 0 degrees
wing twist max 5 degrees
wing aspect ratio 2:205
dihedral angle 0 degrees

thrust - weight ratio 8.7 : 1
thrust 60kn - 13490lb each (without AB)
90.1kn - 20,250 each (with AB)

max speed mach 2.0
supercruise mach 1.3 (without AB @36,000ft)
stall speed 110 knots
angle of attack max 70 degrees
ceiling height 60,000ft/18290m
brakes off to 35000ft <2.5 min
brakes off to 110knots 8 seconds
200knots to mach 1 30 seconds
G limits +9g -3g

Fuel tanks

Image

internal fuel capacity 5,700L
external fuel tanks (2 x 1000L marked C)

empty mass 24,250LB/11010kg
max take off mass 51,809LB/23,521kg

hope this information will be of use when the model is ready.

i know it is a lot to ask someone to do, any help would be appreciated.

I'll upload the model or send it if anyone can help.

Thanks

Alex

Hello guys,

@HHS: Thanks for the hint, they have some interesting links, I didn't know that the Typhoon uses voice commands :-O

@Alex: this data indeed fills some gaps, I haven't found anything about the twist or incidence.
If you post a link to the Model I can measure things out and provide a texture map, anyone can paint his favourite livery on.

Greetings

hi the link is here

just so everyone knows this is not a workable aricraft yet until the FDM and other things are completed so its not worth downloading this link just yet :)

thanks

Yes- the forum is full or real jet-pilots and helicopter pilots. And because of that full of detailed informations...

Would be nice to simulate Voice Command! ( I meant this for real, because that would be a feature which the other sims don't have!)
