F5E Tiger II All New Update

Postby Zexe » Tue Dec 07, 2010 12:41 pm

December 20th, 2010:

I think I've exhausted myself with the F-5E Tiger II and I am now gonna go back to my original project of the Cirrus Vision SF50. I learned so much from tweaking things on the F-5E Tiger and I hope you guys are able to further develop it more in the near future. In the final version, I changed the chrome texture of the nozzle and nozzleneck, now it looks a little more realistic than just the previous solid black chrome effect, and I added a better texture for the Ninja. I also added the exhaust plume, quite difficult to see but you can see that something is there. The exhaust gas is really visible when you fly through the clouds, it's not that great, it's great to see that the engines are on, but I tried to keep it very minimal.
I am content with the F-5E, although the cockpit can use some work. If you have questions in regards of how to fly the darn thing, well, please PM me and I'll be glad to send you a video tutorial. That's it for me on the F-5E Tiger II. Thanks for your attention. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16442048/F-5ETigerII.zip
BTW, if you want to shut off engines press : shift + q , to restart the engines (there are two stages), try either : shif + s or shift +q, either one, keep trying one or the other if the engine doesn't start up. If all else fails, wait for a minute or two and try it again.

With Prestes (aka isix) and Alexis (A-10 parts) permission, I am now officially releasing another update of the F5E Tiger II.

***With the help of Buckaroo, I am now able to open the F5e.ac in Blender, giving me a little more freedom to do what I want. Since the last update, there have been several major changes, this includes an additional fictional F-5E model called the Ninja, smoke, animated wheels, revised autopilot, and some minor changes in the textures. I am currently working on better highlights for the Ninja and always seeking to improve the cockpit, which is lacking the most on this plane at the moment, but luckily there's a cool HUD. Melchior also helped out with the HUD syntax and so now we have blinking warning signs. Yay~!

Here is the final update link:

**Make sure to delete the previous F-5E folder**

***If there are any issues with this plane, please let me know ASAP and I will try to get a fix for it. If you know how to create a script for the radar and would like to contribute, please feel free to. In FG 1.9.1, the nozzles are highlighted, you can disable the shaders for the nozzles in the F5e.xml file in the models folder. I use FOV 88, please feel free to adjust to your optimization. Great job, Zexe!!! Congratulations! I´m without time this week and cant to do updates the hangar website. At night I will fly your 'bicudo' - as F-5E is nicknamed in Brazilian Air Force (FAB).

Tried to download it, and instead of an F-5E all I got was about 20 pop up windows and forced virus downloads. Good thing I can't get viruses on this computer. :)

Can you please not use mediafire? Use dropbox. No forced downloads, viruses, ads, pop ups. :D

Weird, never have I ever ran into such issue. Anyways, gonna try dropbox and see . Done, see the link above.

If anybody has ac3d and would like to animate the wheels spinning, I'd be very happy. Also, the cockpit could use some work.

Dropbox works well-- I use the service frequently for syncing work between home/office and for distributing files to coworkers. It does require a download and installation of a client though. Though the base service is free, the client thing might be an issue for some.

Zexe, if you want, I can host your aircraft downloads from my site. I have plenty of space and bandwidth.

Another option that doesn't require a client is easy-upload.nl. They offer file hosting and sharing with no advertising nonsense whatsoever. They just do the job without throwing huge quantities of junk at your face when you try to download something.

Hiya guys! Thanks for the info. Dropbox seems to do well.

Thanks Buck for your offer, but I think dropbox will do for now.

On another note, I have been working on the HUD persistently, but I am having trouble figuring out how to get blinking WARNING indications. There's a <blink> syntax but there doesn't seem to be anything like <select>. Or maybe there is?
Code: Select all
<label>
      <name>Warning AoA</name>
      <x>-40</x>
      <y>25.5</y>
      <width>1</width>
      <height>1</height>

      <input>
         <property>fdm/jsbsim/aero/alpha-deg</property>
           </input>

      <format>!!WARNING!!</format>
      <halign>left</halign>
      <box>galse</box>
      <option>bottom</option>

      <blinking>
          <interval>0.25</interval>
          <condition>
               <greater-than>
                     <property>fdm/jsbsim/aero/alpha-deg</property>
                      <value>10.0</value>
                  </greater-than>
               </condition>
      </blinking>
  </label>

In this case, I'd like to have the '!!WARNING!!" appear when the property has been exceeded. Since an AoA of more than a value of 10 will put the plane in the early stages of a stall, I'd like a WARNING indicator on the HUD to blink on, as oppose to it already being there from the start. Any ideas on how to make this happen?

I have a idea :

Add some lines into F5-E/Nasal/f5e.nas :

Code: Select all
device = "/instruments/HUD/message/msg0";
props.Node.new(device); setprop(device, "!!WARNING!!" );

Then the HUD code shoud be :

Code: Select all
<label>
      <name>Warning AoA</name>
      <x>-40</x>
      <y>25.5</y>
      <width>1</width>
      <height>1</height>

      <input>
         <property>instruments/HUD/message/msg0</property>
      </input>
      <halign>left</halign>
      <box>galse</box>
      <option>bottom</option>

      <blinking>
          <interval>0.25</interval>
          <condition>
               <greater-than>
                     <property>fdm/jsbsim/aero/alpha-deg</property>
                      <value>10.0</value>
                  </greater-than>
               </condition>
      </blinking>
  </label>

Maybe there are a more elegant way to do it. Try to change <property>instruments/HUD/message/msg0</property> by <value>"!!WARNING!!"</value> :|

I tried it but the "WARNING" indicator is always on. Is there a way to keep it off until the AoA is exceeded?

Zexe, I cant run this code here (i´m in the company now), but add this lines at end of F5-E/Nasal/f5e.nas :

Code: Select all
var checkgalertmsg = func {
   input = "fdm/jsbsim/aero/alpha-deg" ;
   output = "instruments/HUD/message/msg0" ;

   valueinput = getprop( input );

   if ( valueinput > 10 ) {
      setprop( output , "!!WARNING!!") ;
   } else {
      setprop( output , " " ) ;
   } ;
} ;

setlistener("/sim/signals/fdm-initialized", checkgalertmsg ) ;

I tried it and tested it with different ways, and nothing seemed to work. I don't know much about nasal so I'm useless. Wait, I'm quite useless at most things. :P Anyways, I'll keep trying different things and see if I can figure this out. Thanks for the help isix.

EDIT: Buckaroo offered just adding
Code: Select all
<condition>
<greater-than>
<property>fdm/jsbsim/aero/alpha-deg</property>
<value>12.0</value>
</greater-than>
</condition>

and it worked. But no blinking, but better than nothing!
