Looks like a brick. I'll bet it flies like one too. Very short empennage. Not likely to have much elevator/rudder authority.

I really like how the tailwheel is lifted off the ground with someone standing next to it....who says photoshops didn't exist before the PC (it was just a lot harder)?

If it's light enough for that guy to hold it like that, that thing is going to have a max demonstrated crosswind of 1 knot...

Let's try this one. What is it, and what purpose was it built for?

Uh, that's right, it's a Pe-8 :P

This has got me stumped, when I first saw it I thought it was was one of the shorts (Singapore type) boats but it has not got enough engines :?

I don't recognise as one of the major British Boats so It's probably an early Curtiss or Boeing etc.

No, it is a Dornier Wal, designed as passenger boat flying over the ocean .
It was famous for a flight to the north pole by Amundsen.

OK, I believe I've found it, It's a Boeing Model 50 XPB-1, for use in an attempt to fly to Hawaii but scuppered by engine problems. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_Model_50

But then I could be wrong

Ooo, I didn't know you could do that

I've been searching the hard way, it's more fun, you find all sorts of information/aircraft you never knew about.

Is always fun to find new aircraft and stories. There is a pretty good story to go along with that attempt to get to Hawaii non stop.

Is that an A-26 or an B-26? They look so much alike...

By the way, the fuselage of that Boeing model 50 looks so much like the fuselage of the Catalina.

They are best viewed at full size.
