FlightGear T-Shirt Nominees November 2009

Postby Torsten » Thu Oct 29, 2009 10:20 am

Here is the first list of nominees for the first "FGFS contributor of the month t-shirt".
Please vote for your favorite candidate, so Curt can award the winner with the best t-shirt on earth!

(Polls are limited to 10 options, so I stopped after I had collected ten names)

I'm sorry to ask, but is there a list of what these guys have done recently?

Erik Hoffman : on going work on sound manager and maintainer of parity between jsb cvs and fgfs cvs (jsb being an independent project)
Tim Moore : our Sim Gear primary coder, and the man behind the new Effects framework that brought shaders/effects to FGFS.
Till Busch : Work on shaders and effects (landmass, water are his, iirc)
Stuart : Mr Forum, but more important, Mr 3D clouds :)
James Turner : doing some important work on radio and navigation instruments right now.
Emmanuel Baranger (aka Helijah) : the sheer number of GPLed aircraft he contributed to FGFS (and still does, ongoing thing)
David Culp : Dave's Hangar, which houses some of the most flown aircraft in the FGFS universe, as well as a non negligible (former) contributor to FGFS CVS, and one of the active devs on JSBSim.

for the others, let me guess (please correct if necessary) :
Gijs de Rooy : for being an enthusiastic young man, but I think it's the 747-400 that puts him here and his general contribs to community spirit.
Jonbourg : not sure at all, but has to do with aircrafts, don't know which 'though.
Yurik_nsk : For his superb Tupolev 154B model.

Hope that helps,
Cheers,
Nic

Just to add a bit here...

Gijs does a great job maintaining and contributing to the FlightGear Wiki - it wouldn't be where it is today without him. Most recently he spearheaded and continues to develop the multilingual facets of the wiki among many other things he's working on.

Hi all!

I have just voted and I found it EXTREMELY DIFFICULT!! I think it will be easier by every election, because I actually
voted for someone this time who wasn't very active THIS month, but did a great job in the past.
In a few months, when every contributor who did a precious work in the past owns a cool FG-Shirt, I can vote for the
one who deserves the prize in that special month.
Maybe you felt the same way.

Ciao,
Adrian

... and, being that it's the first list, a lot of people got left off of it. I would definitely have voted for Tuxklok for his work on FGCom, but will simply have to make sure he's nominated next month. :)
Cheers,

Just keep your favorites in mind and make sure to make your suggestions soon when the next call for kandidates is placed in this forum.

For the next poll, I will pick the first 10 names from 10 distinct posts. So everybody may suggest just _one_!

Stay tuned! But first, lets complete this poll.

I'm wondering if the results should be hidden until all votes have been cast and the winner picked. Or, perhaps, the votes should not be shown at all?

Yeah, I'm sweating because there's a 3-way tie going on right now and I already voted so I can't break the tie now. :-)

I just voted. It was a very hard decision, and my answer was almost picked at random.

Because he made the most outstanding model for FG yet, I voted for yurik_nsk. However, I was tied between almost everyone. I just think that, as the first model to appear (I haven't tried it yet myself) to exceed the quality of payware models in MSFS, it deserves special respect. Plus, it took years to make, and is just incredible.

Sorry to everyone else, but I can't vote for 10 people

Thank you to Curt, Torsten, his wife, and whoever else I forgot to mention (I am doing this off the top of my sleepy head) for starting this award. Congratulations to whoever wins.
Also known as Johnathan Van Why.

I have just voted.

I can repeat what said NicQ upper on that topic

NicQ wrote:David Culp : Dave's Hangar, which houses some of the most flown aircraft in the FGFS universe, as well as a non negligible (former) contributor to FGFS CVS, and one of the active devs on JSBSim.

I agree fully with that opinion,
AND
To me here is a lot of other contributors which are not on this list, making the progress of the FDMs , which is the most important for a simulator, more important than any 3D drawing.
Regarding the added value to FG done by Dave, done without any noise, sometime on the side. :) , i would like to underline his work.
