Douglas DC3/C47 A Great plane to fly

Postby sim » Fri Sep 16, 2011 7:26 pm

Downloaded the Douglas DC3/C47 and found it really great to fly. I'm still using ver 2.0.0 but the model's shadow seems odd! Anyone tried it in 2.4.0 ? Anyway it proved simple enough to remove the shadow by negating the code in the shadow.ac file in this plane's model folder. Video shows example of shadow stuck to plane rather than nicely following the terrain below!

That voice is funny! I've noticed that shadow issue with a few planes, mostly during replays. it really spoils the illusion, eh?

Interesting, text-to-speech with accent?

To bad the DC-3 hasn't got the real engine sounds. :( The sound of those two big radial engines is music to my ears...

Here's a video to demonstrate my point about the engine sound:

Low-level flying — It's all fun and games till someone looses an engine. (Paraphrased from a YouTube video)

May get round to a DC3 vid with dubbed real sounds. Some text to speech Sitepal announcers take better to english text than others. Using the German announcer needs a little patience scrambling the text so the right sound comes out, avoiding things like "th" "w". Since most english speaking ones result in rather a flat monotone, using the german announcer adds a bit more flavour!

Hi everybody,

The DC3-C47 is currently in development by the PAF team.

The sounds are corrected, the shadow is corrected (unless in replay mode), the cockpit is entirely done, all the cockpit is clickable, you can be 6 players under the DC3 at same time (1 pilot, 1 copilot, 4 passengers), Dual Control is completed and all is controllable by the pilot and the copilot. It has 4 place for passenger (passenger can see the yoke movement and the throttle/mixture/propeller movement). The cabin have chair and high texture quality. The doors can be open and closed. The paratroopers are implemented.
It's done many !

The Dual Control is very highly implemented on this aircraft, you can really fly with other player aboard and the copilot can control entirely all switchs and commands

You can see all the parameters available on the wiki page : http://wiki.flightgear.org/Fr/Douglas_DC-3-C47
And you can see the development status on the french page : http://equipe-flightgear.forumactif.com ... -dc-3-c-47

Hi skyop,
I'm glad to heard that from you. The DC3-C47 is yet in development. When we are ready to diffuse our
work we will create a new topic here and we write some line in the NewsLetter :)
I have personnaly developped the Dual Control feature and I can to say you that the Dual Control has never been too highly developped

WOW, this really looks nice. I had already discovered the DC3 just before the 2.4.0 release and featured it quite prominently in the FlightGear gallery. I have one questions that I would normally be very reluctant to ask: Would it be possible to have the current updates in GIT/fgdata:master around November 1st? The reason I am asking is that we are presenting FlightGear again at FSWeekend, in the Aviodrome at EHLE airport. I've visited the Aviodrome yesterday as a regular visitor and saw two of their DC3's in Flying condition; see:
http://www.dropbox.com/gallery/7455889/1/A-Day-At-the-Museum?h=d9972f for a photographic impression.

Therefore, it would be extremely cool to present the FlightGear DC3 during the FSWeekend.

Cheers,
Durk

@durk : Absolutely, we have planned to diffuse the next version at 25 September, so you will able to present the DC3 at your FSWeekend :)
In addition, I invit you to bring 4 or 5 computers in order to show the possibility to connect many players on the same aircraft and have a copilote that can use all control like the pilot. The DC3 can transport 4 passengers in multiplayer (and more if you want) and this feature was never done with any simulator previously. I think that is a good thing to show that FlightGear is better than M$ Flight Simulator in some circumstances !

Cheers,
Clément

Current FG DC3/C47 download does have a working shadow in ver 2.4.0. So problem exists in 2.0.0. only!
In 2.4.0. the shadow does follow the terrain below but during turns or aerobatics the shadow remains the same flat silhoette!
