Getting the game to start

Postby SAM-NEEDS-HELP » Tue Apr 02, 2013 11:04 am

Hi all,

have downloaded Flight Gear Simulator on my MAC OS X 10.8.2 - Mac BookPro. I Have installed it into my Applications folder successfully, although, when trying to start the game, I hit the "Start Flight" Button but nothing happens. I am not a very skilled person when it comes to 'html codes', and I have read a few of the Flight Gear forums about this same problem but I do not understand how to get the game started still. Could I please have detailed step - by - step instructions on how to get this game running. I downloaded the 2.8.0 version of the game.
(If you know how to help solve my problem using non complicated methods can you please reply ASAP, Thanks a lot guys for your help)

King Regards, Sam,

Welcome to the forums! Could you go to the first page of the launcher and click the "view log" button and paste that here? And does it happen with all aircraft?

There is no view log button, and yes it happens with all aircraft.

Hi Sam,

When you get as far as the 'Start Flight' button, do not press it. Look to the bottom of that little screen. There wil be a little triangle very near the bottom left next to 'Advanced Features', press that triangle then select 'General'.

Near the bottom of the 'General' page there is a button which says 'View Log'.

Just as an aside, A lot of Mac users never got version 2.8 to work properly. It might be worth while downloading version 2.10 r 379 which seems to be working OK.

Base package check failed:
Version [none] found at: Contents/Resources/data
Version 2.8.0 is required.
Please upgrade/downgrade base package and set the path to your fgdata
with --fg-root=path_to_your_fgdata

Well, what's at Contents/Resources/data?

The error means that the data package is not at the place where the binary expects it to be, so you need to check the path to FGData and either install it in the expected path Contents/Resources/data or provide the correct path in the commandline/launcher.

Here's another user with the same problem who mysteriously got it working: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=19486&p=179874&hilit=base+package+check+failed#p179874

But I do agree with Vic: its going to be better to use 2.10, especially since you probably aren't going to lose anything (e.g. any installed aircraft).
