FlightGear Crashes in the Ocean on Statup

Postby DavidBaldwin » Thu Oct 25, 2012 9:59 pm

When I select any airport other than KSFO, and hit Start Flight, as soon as the loading is done, I hear a crashing sound and the aircraft is in the ocean! The "scenery on the fly" checkbox is checked. Help!

Edit: When I go under "environment" --> "automatic scenery download", the target directory field is blank, but I cannot edit it either. The box is checked though...

Hi David,

I assume you are trying to use version 2.8.

The 2,8 version doesn't work on a lot of Macs because TerraSync is not providing the scenery.

I suggest you download version 2.6.0 r319. That version works beautifully.

Hopefully version 2.8 will get sorted sometime, but we may have to wait until the next version goes live.

Cheers,
Vic

Not creating a bug report is not going to give you a fix, unless it is accidentaly fixed... ;-)

Also, I suspect you can still download scenery by hand? A failing Terrasync does not mean that the whole sim is failing...

Hi Gijs,

This is already in Zakalawe's to do list.

Unfortunately, downloading fresh scenery does not seem to update the scenery folder either. To make sure new FGers get it into their files means writing foolproof instructions. This often leads to confusion because of the various Mac machines and OS versions.

That is why I send them down a route which I know works.
